"Dollars & Sense" – National Consumer Protection Week
March 7-13 is National Consumer Protection Week, a collaborative effort to inform consumers of their rights and help them take action to protect themselves from abuse. Many great consumer advocacy organizations are involved, including our friends over at the Consumer Federation of America.
The National Consumer Protection Week website has some great resources, including information about how to file a complaint and a list of the top complaints from last year. It should come as no surprise that debt collectors, counterfeit check scams, credit cards, advance-fee loans, credit protection and repair services, banks and lenders, and credit bureaus all are within the top 15 consumer complaints.
And yet, little is being done to stop the abuses of these lenders and service providers through better regulation and enforcement of laws. Want to do something about that? Sign our latest petition!
