Skip the Senate, Take it to the Banks!

December 4, 2009

The Senate is getting stuck on their attempts to speed up the implementation of the Credit CARD Act, an issue we’ve discussed here recently. Our friends over at Consumers Union have thought of another way to demand reform now: hit the banks where it hurts by not charging any money on your abusive credit cards over the holiday season!

The banks are counting on all the money they’re going to make off of you in the next month. They’ll pick your pockets with overdraft fees, service fees, and increased interest rates. Don’t give in to their games.  Instead, stop charging during the busiest shopping days of the year and they’ll be forced to change their ways!

They can’t make money without us. Now it’s time to prove that we mean business. Show the banks who’s boss by signing this petition.

A more substantial demonstration of our resolve to send a message that we are the ones that have the power to persuade our beliefs – is to cooperate on a national/world-wide and choose not to use a VISA credit card.

1). Transfer your VISA balances to another credit card. (MasterCard, AMEX, Discover, etc.)
2). Open your wallet/purse and cut your VISA card in half.
3). If you’re in line at the checkout isle and you see someone using a VISA card – kindly and courteously approach them and tell them that using the VISA card sends a message that they are unconcerned with the unequal playing field whereby large corporations’ greed is the downfall of the American dream.
    4). Tell 5 friends.

It could be any credit card – that is unimportant. Arbitrarily chose VISA. What matters is that we hit them where it hurts – their checkbook. If the use of VISA drops by 5% and the media picks up on it – there will be a ground swell. The beauty is that this style of revolution is legal, powerful and again, hits them where it hurts them – their profit. What a beautiful simple message it will be.

Vacation credit cards could be a lot a lot much more than pre-printed credit rating cards stuffed in envelopes with mailing labels applied. With some imagination and also the correct greeting card supplier, a greeting card can be considered a truly unique, higher higher quality present that projects organization professionalism as well as heartfelt wishes for that holiday season.
