President Obama Announces his Plans for Financial Reform

June 17, 2009

The President is set to begin his speech about comprehensive financial reform in a few minutes.  You can watch it live at the White House webpage.

The Washington Post ran this story last night about the Administration’s plans, and also made their White Paper (PDF) available.  The plan does call for a Consumer Watchdog agency which “have broad authority to overhaul a tangled mess of federal regulations, such as the various laws that compel lenders to give mortgage borrowers a massive stack of paperwork at closing that includes several calculations of the true cost of the loan itself.”

More coverage to come.

I saw on the news yesterday evening that Iran is poised to move in as soon as we move out. I guess if that was Obama’s goal, then “Mission Accomplished”. (It sure ain’t *my* goal for Iraq.)
