“The [National Consumer Law Center] says only the Credit CARD Act, S. 414, sponsored by Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., which is scheduled to be voted on soon, prohibits lenders from raising rates on an existing account as a result of a late payment. A coalition of more than 50 national and state consumer advocacy groups sent a letter Wednesday supporting Dodd’s proposal, encouraging senators to pass it quickly, according to the Americans for Fairness in Lending.”
