Credit card debt is less of a problem in South Dakota than in the rest of the nation. The median amount of revolving debt (95 percent of which is credit cards) per borrower in 2006 in South Dakota was $1,304 – sixth-lowest among the 50 states – according to Americans for Fairness in Lending, an advocacy group that backs more regulation of the industry.
