Credit Card Mark-Ups in the House and Senate
It’s a big week for credit card legislation! This morning, the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee is marking up S. 414, the Credit CARD Act. We blogged about this below, and joined over fifty other nonprofits in this letter (PDF) to the Senate supporting the bill. (A “mark up” is when a committee or subcommittee discusses and possibly amends a bill, ultimately voting on whether it should move to be considered by a larger committee or the full Senate or full House.)
Tomorrow, the House Financial Services Committee will mark up H.R. 627, the Credit Cardholers Bill of Rights. AFFIL supports this bill as well, and signed on to this new letter (PDF) supporting it.
