Several consumer groups, as well as the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs, are also raising the alarm about refund anticipation loans, which are secured by and repaid from a pending federal tax refund.
“We would say, ‘Don’t do it,'” said Jim Campen, executive director of Americans for Fairness in Lending, a Boston-based advocacy group. “The real problem is that it’s expensive.”
